WWP Phuket Charity Group was established in Sept. 2009 and we successfully sold and raised B 120,000 for the Phuket Sunshine Village, which is a foundation for underprivileged and orphaned children. For our 2nd Calendar of 2011, our goal remains the same but we will focus on under-privileged and abused women in Phuket. Even though we are a new group, we believe that any help that we provide will have some impact on people’s lives. We hope to be able to create a better future for some people.

“Phuket Shelter For Children And Families was set up in 1994. The development of a substantial tourist business in Phuket over the past two decades has led to a huge expansion in economic activity. This, in turn, has produced a substantial demand for labor in the hospitality sector, service sector and construction and related industries. Many people from all over Thailand have been attracted to Phuket because of high incomes and business opportunities. However, in any situation where there is a mass movement of people there will be a certain percentage that encounters social problems. This is often related to the dislocation of families. For some, moving to Phuket has not solved their problems but, in fact, created new ones. Young people moving from, offer, a rural background, sometimes come into contact with disputable people and engine in illegal or anti social activities. Many young people moving to Phuket have limited skills to enable them to obtain decent employment. These have the effect of destroying the overall image of tourism. Heme, temporary home has been organized to solve these mentioned problems by Department of social Welfare Development, Ministry of social and Human Resource Development, in co-operation with Phuket Province. Temporary home is the asylum at first according to Juvenile Protection Act A.D. 2003.
